Once we landed we had to put crampons over our special boots - I love taking photos of shoes but this was a real novelty....

Without them we would be slipping all over the place.
Brendon was our guide .....

and we were with Germans, Americans, Australians and Chinese.....great fun.
We were on part of the glacier described as very confused......the base was moving at 3m a day and where the ice had fallen crevasses were developing in all directions - this made for very exciting climbing.

We were given strict instructions to follow Brendon and in many cases he had to create steps in the ice as it was so steep - he also filled in small crevasses with broken ice for us to walk on -

The shapes and colours were incredible - but all the time you were aware of the power of the ice.

It was a great experience and well worth losing another day of the itinerary waiting for the weather to clear...

and then of course helicopter back....at one point they were queuing up to land on the ice....

Amazing trip - or have I said that already????? :o)
