Waterfalls and Glaciers

Today has been a travel day ....and I really thought I would not be blogging - giving everyone a break :o) But no - it has been another amazing experience.

The weather has been dreadful - we left Lake Te Anau in pouring rain and low cloud - we made great progress back to Queenstown and then started travelling north to Franz Joseph.

This was where progress slowed - we went across the Cardrona Pass, a very high pass with many hairpin bends - provided great ammunition for a lot of nagging to slow down. When we came out of the cloud the scenery had completely changed and looked like moorland.

Travelling on we then went over the Haast Pass through the Southern Alps - and because of the rain the waterfalls were amazing - and the Haast River was in full flow.

Yep that is me on holiday :o)

You will have realised by now that we have started taking many photos of our trusty van in all sorts of places - this one was very wet!

The rainforest is incredible - very dense and the trees are beautiful - this fern can grow up to 7m tall - easy for me to stand under....I copied this pose watching a Chinese lady having her photo taken - think it worked better for her and she was fully made up!

On the journey we just touched the coast

Remind you of Cornwall??

......and this sums up the friendship of all the travellers in New Zealand - messages on the beach.

We arrived in Franz Joseph and the biggest decisions of the holiday were made.........
